Yolanda Gail Devers (born November 19, 1966) is a former American track and field athlete who competed for the United States Olympic Team three times. The California native was born in Seattle, Washington, and grew up in the city of National City. He received his high school diploma from Sweetwater High School in 1984. Gail Devers Stadium is the name of the football and track stadium at Sweetwater. Devers, a promising young athlete in the 100 m and 100 m hurdles, began having health issues while preparing for the 1988 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles. He suffered from migraines and eyesight loss, among other ailments.

She qualified for the Olympics in the 100 m hurdles, but was eliminated in the semi-finals due to her deteriorating health, which continued to worsen even after she returned home. She was diagnosed with Graves’ disease in 1990 and had radioactive iodine treatment, followed by thyroid hormone replacement therapy, to address the condition. When Devers was undergoing radiation therapy, she started to experience scorching and edoema in her feet. After a while, the sprinter was unable to walk and had to crawl or be carried by someone else.

Her feet were evaluated for amputation by a doctor. Devers miraculously healed when the radiation therapy was stopped, and she was able to return to training. At the 1991 World Championships, she finished second in the 100 m hurdles, earning her a silver medal. Devers was a standout performer in the 1992 Summer Olympics. She advanced to the final of the 100 m, which concluded in a thrilling finish with five women finishing within a millisecond of each other (within 0.06 seconds). The picture finish revealed that Devers had just edged out Jamaican Juliet Cuthbert by a hair. At one point, Devers seemed to be on her way to a second gold medal in the 100 m hurdles final, but she tripped over the last hurdle and finished in fifth place, allowing Voula Patoulidou, of Greece, to take the gold medal in an unexpected fashion. Take a look at the race In 1993, Devers won the 100 m World Championship title after a picture finish victory against Merlene Ottey in what seemed to be a dead heat.

She also won the 100 m hurdles championship in the same season. In 1995, she was able to maintain her hurdles championship. Almost exactly three years earlier, the 100 m final at the Summer Olympics in Atlanta was a rematch of the World Championships final. Ottey and Devers completed the race at the same time for the second time, and none of them knew who had won. Despite the fact that all athletes were given the identical time, Devers was adjudged to have finished first, making her the first woman to retain the Olympic 100 m title since Wyomia Tyus in 2004. The final of her favourite event, in which she placed fourth and outside of the medals, was another disappointment for Devers. Devers earned her third Olympic gold with the U.S. women’s 4 × 100 m relay squad. Following these Games, Devers focused on the hurdles event, winning the World Championships in 1999 and 2000, although she was forced to relinquish her spot in the semi-finals of the 2000 Summer Olympics due to a groyne injury. The year 2005 saw Devers take a break from competition to give birth to her first child with her husband, and she returned in 2006. The Millrose Games were held on February 2, 2007, and Devers beat 2004 Olympic champion Joanna Hayes to win the 60 m hurdles event in 7.86 seconds, which was the fastest time in the world that season and just 0.12 seconds off the world record she established in 2003. Devers was 40 at the time. Furtherm.
