Gary LeVox is an American singer and songwriter known for being the lead vocalist of the contemporary country-pop trio Rascal Flatts.

LeVox’s first musical appearance was in a play at his school, at the age of eight. At an early age, he enjoyed music and also took part in family jam sessions with his second cousin Jay DeMarcus. LeVox took up a job at the Ohio Department of Mental Retardation, after graduating from Ohio State University. Eventually, however, DeMarcus was convinced to pack it up and join him down in Nashville to pursue his musical dreams.

They started gigging together at a town club while DeMarcus also played the backing band of country star Chely Wright. One night, the two cousins needed a guitarist to sit in at a show, so DeMarcus asked Joe Don Rooney, who played in Wright’s band with him. The three had an immediate musical connection and were born Rascal Flatts.

It was released on Lyric Street Records on October 29, 2002 (see 2002 in country music) and sold 3,073,000 copies in the U.S. until May 2009. The lead-off single “These Days” was the group’s first Number One hit on the Billboard Hot Country Songs charts (and reached number 23 in the Pop Charts).
