Known for being the late senator John McCain's daughter and for fighting with Joy Behar on The View, Meghan McCain has also been in the news for announcing her pregnancy in spring 2020. Before she became part of The View, she was given the job of co-host on a Fox News show called Outnumbered in 2016. According to The LA Times, she began appearing on the show as a contributor in 2015.
Now Meghan and her husband Ben Domenech are parents to a baby girl named Liberty. How did this couple meet? Let's take a look and learn more about their relationship.
How Did They Meet?
Meghan McCain is a fan of Erika Jayne on RHOBH which is definitely relatable as she's a fan favorite cast member. People are curious to learn more about Meghan's relationship.
According to Women's Health, after announcing her engagement to Ben Domenech in 2017, she explained in an episode of The View that they had been a couple for years.
McCain also said that her husband had a great first meeting with her late father, John McCain: “[Ben] works in politics and has for a long time so he wasn’t as intimidated. He actually met my dad at my brother’s wedding for the first time and ended up talking about health care or something very wonky."
According to AZ Central, Domenech is the co-founder and publisher of The Federalist, which is conservative. It seems likely that they met because they are both involved in politics.
According to Closer Weekly, Meghan McCain talked about her first date with her now-husband. She explained that she knew he was The One and that it was "different" and "better" than other dates she had been on. She said, "When we went out the first time, I was like, this is a totally different vibe and it’s way better." She said that he "took it seriously" and she could tell that she would be able to get married and have a family with him.
Their Wedding Day
John McCain passed away in August 2018 after being diagnosed with cancer, and he was able to attend his daughter Meghan's wedding.
According to People, Meghan McCain said of her wedding day, "I just wanted everybody to have a good time.”
While the plan was for her dad to walk her down the aisle, he tore his Achilles tendon, so her brother Jimmy did it instead. Meghan McCain explained, "He stepped in to walk me down the actual aisle and then my dad gave me away at the very end. I had nerves right before I was going to walk out, but Jimmy was making me laugh the entire time.”
McCain also said that when her dad was diagnosed with glioblastoma, she knew that it was time to get married. She said to People, “We were already talking about getting married, but this made it official. There was something about Ben being there for me, at my father’s treatments. I was like, ‘This is love.’ I felt this overwhelming sense of time and my own mortality. We ended up saying, ‘Let’s do this now.'”
Raising Liberty
While Meghan McCain has been private about the first meeting she had with her husband, and she hasn't shared a lot about their marriage either, she has spoken publicly about becoming a mom.
According to People, Meghan McCain shared about being a mom on her Instagram account, and she absolutely loves it.
She wrote, "All of the cliches have come true and exceeded well beyond my wildest expectations ~ it is hands down the best thing I have ever done in my entire life and I am completely in awe of our daughter."
McCain also said, "Having Liberty is like observing my entire heart live and exist outside of my body. She is a little wildcat ~ beautiful, strong, alert, already so full life and spirit... I only wish I had done this sooner."
According to Entertainment Tonight, Meghan McCain said that she wasn't going to share much about her pregnancy as had gotten some mean comments after the death of her father. She said in a post on her Instagram account, "Ben and I have made the conscious decision to guard our (growing) families [sic] privacy as much as is possible. I believe children have a right to privacy and hope you will all understand as we navigate this as much as possible going forward without sacrificing our comfort or safety."
It seems that as a public figure, Meghan McCain doesn't talk much about her husband or how they met, either, as she wants to keep some parts of her life private.
